Creating Lasting Memories in Detroit!
This July, Spectrum Sailing returned to Detroit for year two, welcoming a new group of sailors and continuing to grow our crew on Cass Lake.
The weather kept us on our toes this year, with high winds and challenging forecasts affecting some of our time on the water. Even so, our sailors made the most of every opportunity and brought the same positive energy to camp each day!
One parent shared just how much the experience stayed with their sailor after camp ended. Each day, they could see a new sense of confidence as he stepped off the boat, and what meant the most was being accepted as part of the crew. His instructors talked with him, included him, and gave him the space to participate in his own way. For his family, those three days became a memory they know will stick with him for a long time.
We are so thankful to Community Sailing School for welcoming Spectrum Sailing back and continuing to help us expand our impact in Detroit. We are also grateful to Meijer, our presenting sponsor, for their continued support of Spectrum Sailing and several of our camps throughout the Midwest. The dedication of the local sailing coaches and volunteers in Detroit helped create a space for our sailors to take chances and discover what they are capable of!
Three days always go by quickly, but the moments that are created at camp stay with sailors and families for much longer!
