A Growing Need for Inclusive Sailing in Boston

Spectrum Sailing returned to Boston this August for our second year at Community Boating, Inc., and the response from local families was incredible. More than 140 sailors applied for just 20 available spots, making Boston one of our most in-demand camps of the season.

Over three days, our sailors took to the Charles River to learn the basics of sailing, practice working together as a crew, and build confidence with each trip away from the dock. For some, it was their very first time on a sailboat. By the end of camp, we saw sailors taking on new roles, trying new skills, and becoming more comfortable on the water.

The number of families hoping to participate this year was an important reminder of why programs like Spectrum Sailing are needed. Autistic youth deserve opportunities to explore new activities, build friendships, and be part of their local sailing communities, and we are grateful to be creating more of those opportunities in Boston.

A huge thank you to Community Boating, Inc. for welcoming Spectrum Sailing back for another year, and to all of our amazing volunteers and sailing coaches who made the weekend possible. We were especially grateful to have volunteers join us from Boston Children’s Hospital and Fundación MAPFRE. Their time, energy, and support helped create such a positive experience for our sailors both on and off the water.

We loved being back in Boston and are already excited to continue growing this program in the community!

Support Spectrum Sailing

Spectrum Sailing creates opportunities for autistic youth to experience sailing in a supportive and inclusive environment. Through hands-on learning designed to support each participant’s success, sailors build confidence, develop new skills, and form meaningful connections with peers.

Because our camps are offered completely free for families, community support plays an essential role in making these experiences possible.
