Spectrum Sailing provides maritime education, programming, and outreach for autistic individuals. Our camps provide opportunities for skill development, social interaction, and confidence building. Sailing is our platform to positively impact the physical, mental, and social health of our participants
Spectrum Sailing was born out of necessity. Our founder, Scott Herman, was looking for a sailing camp his Autistic son could attend. Sadly no one would take him, so he started his own camp! Founded in Charleston, they built the only Autism Sailing Camp in South Carolina. The local program grew and proved successful. It was then that Scott decided kids across the country needed this opportunity.
Through the generosity of both the Autism and Sailing communities we can offer camps in multiple locations at no cost to the sailors. These kids just need a chance and Spectrum Sailing is that chance.
Awesome video showcasing our sailors, families and program.

Spectrum Sailing runs a 3 day sailing camp for 10-17 yr old kids. Sessions run morning or afternoon. Campers learn knots, parts of the boat, why the boat sails, and most importantly how to sail!
Due to incredible demand, all eligible sailors will be entered into the lottery. You will be notified via email if selected.
Can't thank the staff enough. Greyson went from not wanting to sail to not only wanting a sailboat but he went out without me this afternoon for a short trip. He hasn't smiled like that in a long time. A 3-day smile. -Charleston, SC Camp Parent
Spectrum Sailing is a wonderful all inclusive program! It allows for special needs individuals to learn not only to sail in a calm manner, but also to push them outside of their comfort zone to experience something extremely fun and rewarding. Scott Herman and his staff are incredible at what they do in providing a life-long skill in a beautiful sport, which also includes developing social skills and teamwork. I along with many others are very happy to see someone take the lead with this kind of unique program and super excited to see it grow! Keep up the great work! -Charleston, SC Camp Parent
This kid just had the most incredible week sailing in Lake Michigan with Spectrum Sailing. Ben ended this week with a whole new skill set, excitement, and so much confidence. He didn't want camp to end. We feel so incredibly lucky he had this opportunity. -Chicago, IL Camp Parent
Gaby gained the confidence to learn new skills during camp and is now open to trying other new things. Your efforts have given her lasting memories of a unique experience and set the stage for a great summer ahead! -Chicago, IL Camp Parent
James and Liam joined Spectrum Sailing this week at their Chicago camp and they had an amazing time. I'm so thankful for the opportunity they had to experience this and learn about sailing and boat safety! -Chicago, IL Camp Parent
This was such an amazing opportunity. Landen had such a great time, he couldn’t wait to go each day, which is huge for him. We are deeply grateful! Thank you so much. - Jacksonville, FL Camp Parent
Our boats are powered by the wind, but our camps are powered by your donations
